On February 7th, 2025 at about 5:27am, the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a burglary in progress at Brooks Yamaha, located in the 8000 block of East Highway 24, Manhattan, Pottawatomie County, Kansas. Deputies arrived on scene and were able to determine that several subjects in a U-Haul truck had gained entry to the building and stolen multiple motorcycles before fleeing the area a few minutes later.

The U-Haul truck was located in Wabaunsee County later Friday morning and following a pursuit, the U-Haul was abandoned and the driver fled on foot. Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office Detective’s responded to the scene and it was determined that the U-Haul had been stolen out of Kansas City. The stolen U-Haul and stolen motorcycles were recovered and later returned to their respective owners. Several hours later the driver was apprehended at a private residence in Shawnee County. The driver was arrested by the Kansas Highway Patrol and transported to the Wabaunsee County Jail on local charges. Pottawatomie County Sheriff Office Detectives responded to the Wabaunsee County Jail and interviewed the driver, identified as Omar Ocampo Jr., 23, of Kansas City, Missouri, and were able to determine probable cause for an arrest to be made.

On February 14, 2025, Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office Detective’s picked up Ocampo from the Wabaunsee County Jail and transported him to the Pottawatomie County Jail on charges of Burglary, theft and criminal damage to property. He remains confined on a bond of $100,000. Additional arrests are expected in the case in the future.
